Born into a noble family from Vicenza, Gian Giorgio Trissino completed his military studies at the Royal Academy of Turin and distinguished himself as a brilliant cavalry officer. His participation in the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, during the Universal Exhibition, made him famous as the first Italian to win an Olympic medal. With his horse Oreste, Trissino won silver in the long jump, gold ex aequo in the high jump and silver with another horse, Melopo, proudly representing Italy.
Gian Giorgio was a pupil of Federico Caprilli, who was due to compete in the Olympics with Oreste but was detained in his home country and only managed to give Gian Giorgio some advice before the competition.
